The Origin Story of Fetch Dubai

A decade ago in 2014 Dewald, a passionate dog lover and Dad to Daphne And Sapo, saw an opportunity in Dubai's still emerging pet care industry. Back then, there weren't many options, and even fewer that truly catered to the well-being of puppers. Dubai wasn't exactly the most dog-friendly place, and with fewer people having dogs, the demand for quality pet care was limited. But we had a vision—to create a haven where our dogs could thrive, a place that would address all their needs, both physical and mental.

From the very beginning, our mission was clear: to provide a location that focused on the enrichment of dogs.It wasn't just about providing a space for dogs to run around; it was about creating an environment where they could learn, grow, Have the personal space they may want, have bodily autonomy, and enjoy themselves in a safe, fear- and force-free setting.

Then came the pandemic. Like many businesses, being a segment of the tourist industry, we faced challenges, but with resilience and a commitment to our clients even in the face of adversity, we not only survived but was given the opportunity to distil what we have set our to do. It was during this time that Alex joined the team, taking on the role of overseeing day-to-day operations.

In 2021 Fetch took a radical step doing away with easy and convenient evaluations, and became the first to offer detailed assessments over multiple days in partnerships with the region's best canine behaviorists. We believed, as a service provider, that it was not only our responsibility, but our duty of care to ensure that using our services was in fact truly in each and every dog’s best interest.

As Fetch continued to grow, the need for a larger, more tailored space became evident. This led to the creation of a new Fetch facility, twice the size of the original. Dewald and Alex, now co-owners, were able to design the new location from the ground up. We used the years of experience, and the knowledge of our international dog daycare owners support network to create the ultimate dog-centred and dog-focused daycare environment. every aspect of the facility was done with meticulous consideration, from the type of spaces, and their purposes, to the materials, the foundations, and drainage systems.

Dewald’s dream has grown into a beloved institution, offering dogs in Dubai a place where they can be happy, healthy, and enriched. It will come as no surprise that we are told about our industry providers offering quick, cheap, and even free ‘assessments’ in order to register making access to their services easy and convenient. We promise we have been there, and it was never about how much we just love dogs. We are grateful that we do not need to participate in such business practices on behalf of our dogs. We know our registration process may seem inconvenient, but it is totally worth it, we even wrote a blog about it. Our stringent evaluation process both serves as a love letter to our Fetch Players, and a way to truly get to know each individual dog who becomes part of our tribe.
No. We do require a window period after receiving the annual vaccination, specifically because of the shedding risk that the kennel cough vaccination poses. We require a 21-day window period from the date of receiving the initial kennel cough vaccination, or a 7-day window period for the annual booster for kennel cough. Please be aware that your dog may show symptoms after receiving the vaccination and could cause this window period to extend longer.
Yes, vacci-checks are required for all dogs 3 years and younger, and highly encouraged for dogs 4 years and older.
No. Our reason we chose to accept unneutered dogs is that whilst many dogs might benefit from neutering, there are also many dogs that are not ideal candidates for various health or behavioural reasons. Rather than disclude dogs from our play facilities on the basis of their neutering status alone, our position is to assess each dog’s behaviour on its own merit. Admittance into our daycare requires exemplary behaviour from any and all dogs (regardless of their neutering status). For our females we do have to ask you to refrain from using us during their heat cycle as far possible, while if she does happen to go during boarding, will be kept separate and will not be included in group activity. We may request that you make alternative arrangements if we are unable to accommodate her during this time.
At Fetch, unlike other free-play facilities where dogs are just placed in an open space to play all day while handlers keep the area clean, our staff are trained anywhere from being training assistants to junior trainers. Dogs are assigned to specific handlers, where they work on specific behavioural tasks that stimulates the dogs mentally by learning tasks like group sits and stay, drop, and recall.
This is one of our points of value in contrast to most other facilities who’s staff are only trained at the beginning of their employment in the basics of handling. Our crew is trained constantly to enhance their dog behaviour knowledge. This is to ensure they are as fluent in dog body language as needed to work with the dynamics of socialised and exemplary behaved dogs while on the look out for concerning signals and signs. They are also trained to only use fear- and force-free methods in all scenarios.
As a duty of care, we conduct 14-point health checks, up to 4 times a day, at check-in while you are there, twice during a full day, and during exit, and will communicate if we notice any irregularities.
Our price structure is a reflection of the cost of providing the quality of service we have to offer. As we are an enrichment facility, to maintain a high quality facility, the number of staff, activities for dogs, while keeping a cap on the number of dogs per square meter. Our rates are designed to support our commitment to providing the highest quality care and champion a holistic approach
Daycare is not for every dog. Older dogs may have trouble adjusting to the commotion caused by a sizeable group of dogs romping and playing in a large area; shy dogs may be overwhelmed by the crowd, and aggressive dogs have no place in a group setting. Our crew are experienced and in constant training in recognising the signs of discomfort and temperament and may indicate that your pet may not be comfortable in the daycare setting.
